Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Who participates in a Literacy Group?
Literacy group participation is determined based on a number of factors. Several data points are reviewed and teacher input regarding classroom performance is solicited.
Who teaches Literacy groups?
Literacy groups at Dover Middle School are taught by highly qualified, certified teachers.
What types of programs are used in Literacy groups?
All programs used for intervention groups are research-based. Programs are implemented with fidelity and progress is monitored on a regular basis. Students are matched with the intervention program that best meets their needs.
When do Literacy groups meet?
Literacy Groups meet during ENCORE on days 1-5. Groups do not meet during Competency Workshop weeks.
How long will my child be in a Literacy group?
Students in DMS reading interventions are evaluated for growth at the end of every six week cycle. At this time, determinations are made regarding the need for continued intervention. Some students only need a quarter to get back on track while other students require a longer amount of time.
Can my child still participate in band and chorus?
Students who are in both band/chorus as well as a Literacy group will attend their Literacy group on days 1-4 and band/chorus on day 5.
How will I know what my child is doing in his/her Literacy group?
Parent reports are generated and sent home monthly via email or paper copy. In addition, continued communication with your child’s Literacy teacher is strongly encouraged.
I still have questions, who do I contact?
The DMS Title I Coordinator, Larissa Ragazzo, is available to answer any questions you may have. She can be reached at 516-7224 or via email at [email protected]
